Global Automotive Supplier Digital Operations: Standardize the Technology Sequence Globally, or Let Business Units Validate in Phases?

Current product policyLast updated August 25, 2026

Minerva judgment

We recommend prioritizing a small-scale, business-unit-led validation path, since current evidence on value, capability, and differentiation (F1, F3, F4) is insufficient to support an early lock-in of a globally uniform sequence; small-scale validation can generate comparable evidence under controlled risk while avoiding the extrapolation risk that F6 prohibits.

Human-controlled next action

The decision owner (Global COO) approves launching Phase One: defining value signals, a capability-gap assessment method, globally common boundary criteria, and clear stop conditions, then selecting a small number of business units for bounded validation.

What would reverse the recommendation

If, before launching small-scale validation, a consistent cross-business-unit data definition, dependency mapping, and accountability boundaries cannot first be established (i.e., the gap described in F4 remains unaddressed), validation outputs will not be comparable. In that case, small-scale validation should be paused in favor of first building the infrastructure for comparable evidence, rather than proceeding directly with the phased validation supported by F1/F3.
